Maximum Hours Allowed by the MOE?
Is there a limit? My wife has a teacher refusing to sign a contract with her because she has 20-25 contact working hours a week in the contract, and he says that it is against the MOE rules... I think he's talking out of his arse tbh but happy to be proved wrong...
The email he sent her alone pretty much sealed his fate...
There’s something about the stress of teaching, the early mornings, the hour long BTS rides, the little plastic tubs of toxic noodles, the yelling, the pleading, the frustration of having 100-odd young people a day not listen to me. It creates in me a strong need to spend my weekends, painfully short as they are, faded, fucked up, and faded some more.

Ask Mrs. po3try whether he looked like in the image below.

Never heard about any rules in regards to the number of maximum contact hours. If there are any, they won't apply to us as non-government officials because that's what we are.
Hope this helped.

Re: Maximum Hours Allowed by the MOE?
We have a maximum of 18 hours in our contracts and as far as I'm aware this limit was set by the MoE, the school would love to give us more hours for the same money but apparently there are guidelines out there.....somewhere!

Really? I've been teaching a minimum of 20 periods a week. The most I did was 24 periods including extra-curricular activities and chess club. What I hear is that I'm a contract teacher so the guidelines don't apply. ??!!??

did wifey call the MoE to get the answer? if so, spill the beans. inquiring minds want to know.

No she didn't. Those are the terms she is offering and what is expected from the school. If he doesn't want to accept that then no contract will be offered. Plenty more fish in the TEFL sea.

Unfortunately it's as simple as that, isn't it. No mention of whether she'd potentially be an asset to the quality of the program, etc.
Not a dig at your wife and her operation, just the Thailand TEFL scene overall. Very little depth (to state the obvious...AGAIN ).

Re: Maximum Hours Allowed by the MOE?
I have no idea where our guidelines come from but its a government school and I thought it was a standard government contract for foreign teschers that couldn't be altered. A few years ago there was some discussion of raising our hours, but even on starting a new contract apparently they weren't allowed to change the hours on our contract (whoever it is that set it!?) and thankfully we stayed at the maximum of 18 hours.
Next semester I'll be teaching about 15 hours a week, although I'm sure they'll find other things to fill my time =]

Please provide a link to these 'guidelines' so my school, who habitually breaks the contract & the law, can ignore those as well. Teachers at sister schools have been working 28 periods (50 mins) & they have a backbone so I'm sure they'll be interested in this document published by the MoE.

but wouldn't she like to know so that should this issue come up in the future, she'll know how to deal with it?
i'll be there isn't such a law and telling mr. fancy pants this information might help get to sign on the dotted line.
after all, how long could a phone call like this take?
