Volunteering..
On acceptance (hopefully) of my Ramkhamhaeng university place.. which is weekends and 2 evenings a week for 8 months of the year, the letter i receive is sufficient to get a student visa.
Surely during my studies I could do some volunteer teaching?
And if the school felt like giving me a few quid here and there to help.
No-one's going to be the wiser are they?

From: Thailand Visa | FAQ
Can I work in Thailand on the ED Visa?
You are not permitted to work in Thailand on an ED Visa. If you gain employment during your course, your employer will assist you with the appropriate visa and work permit paperwork. You will be free to continue your lessons as normal.
From: Thailand Education Visa | Thailand Visa | Thai Visa Lawyers
Other Information about the Thai ED Visa
The Thai Non-immigrant Education Visa is not an employment visa in the strict sense of the term. Although it may be possible to obtain a Thai work permit on the Thai ED visa, the work permit would only entitle the holder to work part-time, less than twenty (20) hours per week, since the primary purpose of the visa is to remain in Thailand for the purposes of getting an education. If the primary reason for coming to Thailand is to work, invest, or otherwise engage in commercial activities in Thailand then we at Integrity Legal suggest that a Thai Education Visa not be pursued.

I don't think I've ever had a teaching job with more than 20 hours a week.

i'm almost certain there's a volunteering visa as well and volunteering without one is technically illegal. not entirely sure however.

i think i get it now. did you mean a teaching job at a language school rather than at a full-time teaching job?

Re: Volunteering..
Sorry, unclear.. contact hours. And these days many schools only need u there for the contact hours.
Or indeed yes, a language school job for 20 hours a week would be sufficient to live on.
