If someone has lived and worked in the US or UK for 5 years, and has been granted citizenship, their English language skills are likely to be good enough.
      Scoring a TOEIC 860 or a 7-8 IETLS?

      And that every 2 years?
I dunno. Up to the TCT and Labour.

I guess I'm gonna be setting up my own TOEIC test center :-)
You started your Thai BA TESOL thread on Thailand Teaching.

      Hungry for new things?

When is a new thread about that to be expected?

Re: TOEIC Test for ALL Foreign Teachers of English in Thailand

I wouldn't like it, but I would do it if it was a requirement (like the licence tests). I would, however, be feeling very put out if I had to pay anything for it (and that includes transportation / accommodation / buying my own coffee etc).

Re: TOEIC Test for ALL Foreign Teachers of English in Thailand

I'm paying for all i.e. TOEIC and TCT tests myself. The school pays nothing. Got to love it. Think I'll be lokking else where once I get 4 tests, ( might take me a while :) ) Mind you pay for work permit and visa too :(

Re: TOEIC Test for ALL Foreign Teachers of English in Thailand

      Looking not Lokking :)

Anyway the way I look at it, if the school pays then I'm obligated to stay on at the school for a few years so that they don't feel like I've pulled a fast one. If I pay all myself then I can go whenever I wish :) Might be wrong to think like that but at our school we really get very little in anyway and each year they expect more and more so I'm waiting for the tests to be finished and then hopefully I can find something better :)

The score's not a problem, I had 940 on mine, and the only reason for that is that I forgot some of the answers (A,B,C) by the time they gave the last answer(D). lol Kinda funny tho.
Anyway, I mean that the test scores are valid for 2 years, so...

Re: TOEIC Test for ALL Foreign Teachers of English in Thailand

Surely the score last more than 2 years.
A friend of mine who's French, took the IETLS years ago and is still using it this year for his applications so I can only assume it lasts longer.
      Anyone know for sure???

      Nope, 2 years is all.
I know a bunch of teachers which went to BKK last week to do the test.

Re: TOEIC Test for ALL Foreign Teachers of English in Thailand

ok so if it last 2 years, is it from taking the TOEIC test or is it on the 2 years for the TCT waivers???

Only asking because I've gotten my 3rd TCT waiver letter for 2 more years (startingmiddle of March, so good until end of the next school year) and if the TOEIC is only needed for the waiver letter, then I'd be better off waiting to take it closer to the running out of the letter rather than doing it as soon as I could, RIGHT?????

Or do us Non native speakers need it for the work permit ??? Anyone know????

Cause there is no point in me taking this test now if it runs out in 2014 as I'll have to take it again for the TCT waiver requirement as it would be out of date, if you get my drift. Any ideas?????

Sorry cause I'm now not sure if I should take it now or wait a year??? IDEAS PLEASE :)

      Cheers MK

The validity of the TOEIC test for 2 years is set by ETS Global/ TOEIC.

It's reported that some Labour Offices in the country has set that as requirement.

Our Labour Office in Phetchaburi wants to see the TCT TL or PTP but has never asked TOEIC or IETLS certificates.

No use to do it now. Take it in 2013 in case Labour wants it or in 2014 when you're applying for another TCT PTP if applicable.
