      Hi Stamp,

Thanks for the list of the requirements.

I only have one question. What about those who have a Master's in Education? Do they still have to take the tests?

      Happy New Year,

      ^

I had a conversation with a rep. From Ramkamheang U.

She said "everyone" now HAS to take the tests.

I asked her about MEd. She said. Yes. You have to take it.

      But what if

Yes you have to take it.

Just like back home. Doesn't matter what you have you still have to get licensed by the state.

So. That's how they sold it to me.

Call the TCT and you'll get a different answer I'm sure. Call them twice and you'll have yet another answer.

Me? I took them all once. Passed one. Will never take them again.

Same here. I took the tests about 1.5 years ago and passed the first section only :(

Re: Teacher License Requirements set by The Teachers'Council of Thailand

      Update.

I just visited their website and it looks like there are 3 routes to the teaching license:
Teachers Council of Thailand (TCT) has developed Self-Assessments to help applicants
discover which requirements and standards they must meet prior applying for a license.

Route 1 : Persons who have had teaching experience with not less than 1 year and
      1. Hold a degree in Education or
      2. Hold other degrees and a teaching license from abroad or
      3. Hold other degrees and a graduate diploma in Education with 1 year
      course of study.

In addition, they also must successfully complete a professional training course and pass
      assessment of knowledge as follows:

      (1) Thai language and culture
      (2) Professional ethics
When they have passed the assessment according to (1) and (2), they can file an application.
In case of applicants’ teaching experience with less than 1 year, they shall provide a certification letter, issued by an educational institution, and submit it to the TCT for issuing a teaching practice certificate and permitting them to attend the training course.

Route 2 : Persons who have had teaching experience with not less 1 year and hold other degrees without a teaching license from abroad; or those who do not hold a graduate diploma in Education with a study course of not less than 1 year, must pass the test, training and assessment as follows:
      (1) Thai language and culture
      (2) Professional ethics
      (3) Professional knowledge
When they have passed the assessment according to (1), (2) and (3), they can file an application.
In case of applicants’ teaching experience with less than 1 year, they shall provide a certification
letter, issued by an educational institution, and submit it to the TCT for issuing a teaching practice
certificate and permitting them to attend the training course, and professional knowledge test.

Route 3 : Persons who have had teaching experience with not less than 1 year, and also hold a teaching license from abroad, but do not hold a degree must show a certification letter with a document pertaining to recognition and reliability of teaching experience
      issued by an educational institution.

To certify professional knowledge and experience must be done in accordance with the
resolution of the TCT Board whereby applicants must successfully complete a training course and pass the assessment of knowledge as follows:
      (1) Thai language and culture
      (2) Professional ethics
When they have passed the assessment according to (1) and (2), they can file an application.

Re: Teacher License Requirements set by The Teachers'Council of Thailand

      Hi guys,

Re post 5 - Route 1,2 and 3 above, can somebody confirm that the requirement to successfully complete a professional training course and pass
assessment of knowledge as follows: (1) Thai language and culture and (2) Professional ethics, are in fact one in the same course?

Possibly a silly question but I just want to be 100% certain.

Re: Teacher License Requirements set by The Teachers'Council of Thailand

Maybe I'm missing something here, but the training course is not a requirement.

There was a 60,000 baht course, but not a lot of people had the time or money to indulge it. (A lot of people ignored the TCT tests for years; I assume for those very reasons.)

Anywho, people just started sitting for the TCT without any course. There is a legendary study guide from one of the courses a few years ago. More recently, I think that ECC ran a prep course. But, how the hell do you prepare a person for the unforeseeable? I've said this before: The TCT test is a state of mind.

As far as the culture course goes: 1) Pay your money. 2) Show up. 3) Go sightseeing, listen to a couple of lectures, do a dance, speak some Thai. 4) Get your cert. 5) Get your next waiver (if you need it - let's be optimistic!!).

      The TCT requirements should read:

      1a) Sign up - N O W ! !
1b) Do not pass GO, do not collect $200. Watch for the application period, and sign up for the next test.
1c) Some people pass on the first try. Most do not.
1d) A high scorer (378 - is anybody aware of a higher score?) did not pass on the first try. Don't wait.
1e) Plan on three or four tries (two years - the length of your extension)

      2) We might agree to another extension; but your school may not be interested. You've been warned.

      3) These requirements will not just go away.

      4) The hell we can't fire the lot of you. Pass the damn tests. (You'll have to take them first.)

      5) Don't even think of choosing all five answers to a question and think we won't notice you filled in all the circles.

      6) This isn't a requirement. Just letting newbies know: scores are out of 150. 98 isn't 98%.

KSP - the fun never stops.
