    Hi,

I'm changing schools and will be going to Penang at some point this week. My old school will cancel my WP and then i will have 24 hours to leave the country. Now, the extension of stay in my passport runs until August, will it just cancel automatically when crossing the border or do i have to go to my local immigration office to inform them?

I always thought you had seven days not one ... check on this though.

Yes, as you won't (I presume) have a 're-entry stamp' that costs you an extra 1000 Baht at Immig. before you exit

It will cancel automaticaly when you cross the border but bring your latest tax receipt with you in case you are asked. That is usually the only problem people face.

Once your work permit is canceled your visa will only be valid for 24 hours.

It's down to your employer to cancel your wp surely?

I've never heard of anyone being refused exit at the border...

Yes, it seems strange because i wouldn't have thought they would have that information at immigration, because it's the Ministry of Labour that deals with WPs.

The only think I know of is that you must go to immigration with a letter from your school, dated for the date you go to immigration, saying you employment has been terminated. Immigration will then cancel your visa, stamp you for 7 days and then you can leave the country. I have had teachers try to leave without doing the above and they wouldn't let the cross the border.

What documents are needed to cancel a work permit in Thailand?

Over the years, I have. The situation of termination of an employment contract is what I'm talking about.

In such a case it looks like the documents below are definitely foolproof.

    • cancellation of the extension of stay at the local immigration office
    • termination letter of the employment contract
    • receipt of the work permit cancellation
    • tax receipt

I worked at Anuban Nakhon Pathom a few years back. They told me on the last day of term my contract won't be re-newed. That was a Friday. I did nothing, then 3 days later i went to Laos and got a new visa. Just stamped out and that's it.

They mustn't like the look of some people...
