Seventy-nine people were killed in road accidents across the country on the third day of the Songkran festival’s “seven dangerous days’’, bringing the total death toll to 167.

There were 748 road accidents reported nationwide on Thursday. This resulted in 79 people dying and 752 being injured, Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said on Friday.

Chiang Mai and Udon Thani provinces recorded the largest number of road accidents on Thursday, at 33 each. Chiang Mai also had the highest number of injuries, at 37.

So the most populous provinces had the highest number of road accidents? Shocking

So about 13 less people have died yoy. Anyone have the budget figures yoy for promoting this huge improvement?

Of course these dull statistics are needed for shock value as perhaps some brainless idiots are fooled by such rough cut numbers but these figures are truly useless if one wishes to carry out any worthwhile analysis.

    Back by popular request.....

Bahn_farang's top tips to avoid death at Songkran

    10) Stay in the house for a week: watch movies, drink yourself stupid, read yourself intelligent, trawl forums, play online games like a 13 year old
    9) Travel abroad to avoid the dullest week in the Thai calendar ( dull with the exception of paying respect to the elders who you truly respect)
    8) Go to a hotel by the beach for a week
    7) Be a monk for a week, take some time to reflect on life and earn some merit
    6) Volunteer at a local charity taking care of some children who need some cheer
    5) Do the garden, it looks shocking
    4) Avoid all use of the motor bike
    3) learn to cook
    2) don't get in a car with a driver who has been a complete eunuch (aka someone who has drunk alcohol)
    1) Don't be a jerk, don't drink and drive

    Stay safe and happy Songkran

Here's a good read and a look at stats year round. At the end of the day in Thailand its carnage 365.
"7 Dangerous Days" no more dangerous than rest of year - Thailands Tidende

... add another 59 (or 57 as 81 day before that, see below table) deaths for 14th too ...mann this country really needs to do something eh, so sad for all those families and folk involved.

Advice taken with big bike due to all the extra piss heads on the road.

They should have Songraan all the time then because 80 people a day die on the roads here 'normally', so given a 4 day period only 226 dead instead of 320.

Songkran death toll falls by 18% | Bangkok Post: news

So 9.6% more accidents and 6.9% more injuries, yet less deaths ....just plain luck I guess but then the boss and his cronies will pat themselves on the back along with the wonderful press here ... good job boys.
