    The Gardeneer - Chiang Mai

I went here Saturday night. It was absolutely lovely. It is an all you can eat salad buffet with soup & coffee included. Those who eat vegetarian, vegan, or raw would have no trouble at all filling up. There are a few slogans floating about like 'Skip the diet, eat healthy', 'Eat vegetables as a main course and meat as a side dish', and 'We love green'. The greens are fresh, and everything tasted wonderful.

The salad bar is 120 baht (or 100 baht if you are too young or too old to be hip. at 40 I am still hip :smile2:) Smoothies, and side dishes are extra. They have a 'lava brownie' that looks absolutely delicious.

The owners are a brother and sister. The brother graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons (NYC), and is currently doing his residency (and he still has time to look after the restaurant). His sister graduated from Texas A&M University (Bryan, Tx) but I forgot what her major was. They are both very articulate. The mom was there as well when I was there, and she too spent time in Texas, and San Francisco. Having lived in TX & NY, and spending time in the bay area as a kid, it was interesting to hear their impressions of places that I have extensive knowledge of.

But I digress... You get the salad bar, soup, coffee, garlic toast, and water for 120 baht, and any side dish you add is between 40 and 80 baht. You should easily be out of there for under 200 baht per person.

I like the fact that the place is very accommodating for a variety of dietary habits. With the brother being a graduate of Columbia Med School, I am inclined to think that the ingredients are not only fresh but are also a reflection of the restaurant's healthful foods vibe (i.e. no msg, and minimal amounts of sodium).

It is located at Star Avenue, which is next to the bus station, so it is a very convenient stop for anyone who hops on a bus to or from CM.
